Our Story

From horse-drawn cart
to modern workshop.

Four generations of expertise serving New York's food service industry.

1930

Giacomo Ambrosi starts the business

Giacomo began traveling the Bronx with a horse-drawn cart equipped with a foot-powered grindstone, establishing what would become a multi-generational family operation serving restaurants and food service throughout New York City.

1960s

Second generation continues the tradition

Leo Ambrosi took over operations, maintaining the door-to-door service model while modernizing techniques and expanding throughout New York City's food service industry.

1970s

Battery-powered equipment in trucks

The business evolved from foot-powered grindstones to battery-powered equipment installed in service trucks, improving efficiency while preserving the personal, on-site service customers valued.

1980s

Robert Ambrosi establishes the workshop

Third-generation owner Robert, with over 40 years of professional sharpening experience, established a permanent workshop in North Salem with professional machinery including 36-inch water bath wheels and traditional whetstones.

Today

Fourth generation excellence

Robert's sons Jason and Mark represent the fourth generation, continuing the family tradition with modern equipment and the same commitment to service and quality that Giacomo established nearly 100 years ago.
